Welcome to the Blog of St. Denis!!!

In the following you will find reports, art pieces and other contributions of our students. The idea behind is to give children of this rural Secondary School the opportunity to show their activities and everyday life to international readers, especially to their friends in Germany, England and the United States.
We would rather bring you their own words than correcting the mistakes.
We hope you will enjoy reading the posts.

THE STORY OF PETER

A long time ago there was a man whose name was Peter, and he had no money. He wanted to get rich quickly. But he didn’t want to work.

He sat in his house and thought about it.

At last, he thought he knew how to get some money without working, and he went a long way out of the town and found a place where there were no houses. And he began to build a small hut of wood and stone. Hes friends come to him and said, you have a house in town. Why are you building another one here? He answered, You will see. Go away now and let me finish my work. When the hut was finishes, Peter went back to the town and spoke to his friends that, you ask me why I am building a hut outside the town, when I have a good house here inside the town.

You thought that I was mad. The hut is finished, and now I can tell you why I have built it. I had a dream in which I thought I saw an Angel and spoke to me and said, “For one day I shall come to this town. You, Peter, must build a hut for me. I shall sit in that hus so that all good men may see me and talk to me. But if any bad men will see nothing.

Peter’s friends looket at one another. Peter said that come and see the Angel! So they walked down the road to the hut which peter built and each man was thinking shall I see the Angel? Am I good? Shall I not see him because I am bad man? Peter said that get in one bye one and you mast take one piece of gold. His friend entered one by one the first one came out, And others said that do you see Angel the man thought that if I say no others can said that I am bad man. He said that Yes and others get in one bye one.

END

Did any of them see the Angel?

I Lawrence, a Ugandan Student. I am in senior three this year and am having my studies at ST. DENIS MAKONDO S.S.. This School is found in Masaka Uganda P.O. Box 21.
I thank our school donors for the work they are doing for us and my Sponsor Keith and Amy Van horn in Colorado, USA. I really appreciate your work.
We learn German language at school and I am very interested in speaking and writing it. One of the reasons why I like it so much, is that it is pronounced as Luganda words which is my traditional language.
So I thank our German volunteers who have given us time and an opportunity to learn this language. It is good because it helps us to communicate well and get each other clearly. Let me use this chance to thank the following, for that firstly and for most, Katherine and Brigit plus our current teachers Philipp and Daniel. I really love and enjoy your lessons as I want to learn outside languages for my better communication with different people in future.
I am talented in Fine Art and I really do it well at school. I pray very hard so that I pursue my dream in future. I make some art pieces during my free time like in my holidays.
So on this let me thank Leslie and Diana Hylton, Maria Camp and group also in USA.
Let me conclude by giving advice to my fellow students in Uganda and the world at large.
My friend let you do the following for success in future.
- Do everything in the right time, place with a right person and know that time wasted can never be gained
- Know that education is the key to success so education first and others later
- Revision is repeated to be successful in life and it is better read books of different authors
- Ever be in time for everything. Things will be easy for you.
A word to advice is enough.

Thank you.

OUR SPORTS DAY IN TERM TWO 2010

This is the day when we held our sports day and we participated in many games including the following; Bating, 3 leg-racing, hundred meter race, Throwing and mini world cup.
This mini world cup game was the major game of all the games and the participant countries were sixteen. Each country consisted of three players and one of them was a girl and two boys to make a team.
The winner of the mini world cup competition was Brazil. This team had good players and that’s why they worn the rest.
Its players were; Lutaaya valentine in senior two, Babirye Mary in senior four and Ssentajja Ben from senior two.
The second country to Brazil was England and it had players named; Mugonza Frank in senior one, Ssebuliba David in senior one and girl called Nalukwata Josephine in senior three. In fact this was my supporting team.
The third one was Portugal and it also had three players. Other countries followed accordingly and the winners received prizes.
The best in throwing was a senior four member and was Namanya Emmanuel. He threw sixty eight meters away. We were very pleased because no one could throw as far as he did.
The third game’s best performer was Ssekanjako Joseph in Sack racing. This student was so fast to be the first as the competition was stiff; he is a senior three member.
The fourth game’s best participant was Katongole Mike in batting and he performed better by the way to become the best of all.
The fifth game’s best participant was Mukaaya Ronald a senior two member and he won in 100 meter race. This student was so fast because the competition was also so stiff.
Our last game’s best performers were two in three-leg racing; they were Nakabanda Jasent and Namugabe Phionah.
This game was so complicated that they could tie your two legs, one from each to make one leg and the other two remain free. Then you start running.
I also participated and I was in the second group in this game.
We’ll hold this sports day every year mainly and I feel happy and enjoying although am not better in performing as I am best in Art and design as you will see in my writings in our blog.
These activities help us to develop our talents in different games
Not only had that but also helped us to refresh our minds for our better education and life in future.
Let me take this opportunity to thank our Germany volunteers Philipp Klotz and Daniel Eble who organized and sponsored our games and gave prizes to the winners in all the six games that we carried out. I thank you very much for that and we learn a lot from you.

Music at St. Denis S.S. Makondo

Hallo….

I’m Ssekanjako Joseph, a student of St. Denis Makondo Senior Secondary School, Uganda. In my life, I love music so much… and much. In this, when I hear someone singing I feel enjoyful whatever the song he/she sings. At our school, we could have music lessons on every Monday of the week. And the lesson is taught by trained and talented teacher Bukenya Fred by names.
We also have other trained teachers from Germany, on is Philipp another is Daniel. They teach us music most especially to know how to read music written down and how to play it on the music instruments, like flute, keyboard and guitar.
I, who talk, now am able to read music from the board, playing it on the flute, singing it and a little bit to teach.
Our school had got music instruments like flute, the guitar, keyboard, drams (traditional instruments) and so many others but the bad thing we/I lack interested teachers in some of them.
Back to my side, I would like mostly to know how to play the keyboard. I have been follow some people who play the keyboard for many times and I saw them playing while they are enjoyable.
So, seriously aks those wo like music in their lives please like it and love it. Without anything changing, my goal is in music!

LOVE GOD! LOVE MUSIC!!

WORDS ABOUT ST. DENIS SSS

I am Nabukenya Angel a student from form two in the above school.
It is my boiling pleasure to open my thoughts to welcome and thank the new and old parents and friends of St. Denis SSS. It is your love, advice and support that has seen St. Denis from the roots and finally blooming to starch green leaves and flowers thus bearing responsible unquestionable fruits.
All this has been the effort of the caring parents, the committed hard working teachers and members of the Board of Governor without forgetting or beloved sponsors who have St. Denis at heart.
Many people had not known where St. Denis is but because of it’s good performance in Uganda. It’s now known across big seas too as far as America, United Kingdom and in Germany where the school has friends like Cathy Nassaka and Bridget Namayaanja.
Discipline is what we are proud of, it’s a pivot on which everything rotates. School rules and regulations, guidance and counseling have yielded such well behaved young boys and girls.
To into your hands, it is God who knows how to reward from for what they do. This was Maria Camp who brought into your hands at St. Denis then Denis was built from zero level when people around by then could ask: “Don’t those who come to Denis, have anything to do? Or are they just people without relatives?” But by now people are kneeling down thanking God’s mercy.
Now the school is so precious, to those who are still in it and those who will join it in future. The message is: Let’s keep the candle of St. Denis stay burning.
Dear readers, keep our motto. Discipline for knowledge and wisdom.

STUDENTS’ LIFE AT ST. DENIS SECONDARY SCHOOL MAKONDO.

This school is in a good climate. It is very good to every student who joins to that school.
One day I joined to this school in 2009 in S2 .Before join on this school, I found many problems in my studies. One of those problems was inadequate fees to encourage my studies .There was my friend who does study on that school.

He told me about that school as I thing that he just lieing/deciving about that school
I surprised for all those words told by him about that school I thank for my self that what is that school looks like that.
After seven days / one week. We went even my friend at that school and we meet head master of that school. Head master invited us so much and also other teacher we met in office plus those students who saw us outside or in compound.
After reach at school, I surprised the good condition which is on that school and also all of those which I saw on that school.
In fact it very bad to lie but I stared about that school.
We did enter inside the office and I start to introduce about my back ground in front of head master, secretary plus two teachers.
All of them wandered because of introduction which I spoke. According to my sadness introduction, all teachers plus head master thank about my sadness introduction because I was informed that I am orphan.
After that head master plus stuff decided to help me to my studies.
In fact, I did never see the school is better than that school because this school has donors or sponsors there fore some students who cann’t support their selves, they have sponsors from different countries. Even me I encouraged my studies in that school. I loved my dents, teacher because I was a new comer.
Headmaster was promised to get the sponser in order to solve the problems of pay school fees and also other scholastic materials.
After two weeks, I got my sponser from
America. I became very pleased because of getting sponser.
On this school 90 % of students are sponsored. Each student on this school is in good situation because this school has many requirements such as computers, library with full of text books which enable students to pass well.
Students eat various types of food which so important to students’ body and their life.
There is much competition among students in their classes.
All students trust in God, there fore the situation on at school is better to every student on that school

DIARY FARMING AT OUR SCHOOL.

The school that I talk of is st Denis. It is located at Makondo, in Masaka district found in Uganda.
At our school, there is a project called Teach a man to fish, and this introduced that program at this school.
Diary farming, this is where by someone rear animals like cattle with an aim o f getting milk as a product.
That program had introduced at our school and by now we have four (4) cows for program.
In addition to that, two cows are now milked with amount milk which is about fourteen (14) liters per day. These cows are reared in a small farm although the big one is now still constructed.
We hope that we will get much milk from more cows. After this program has been runned better, the school will benefit so much from it. And this will make our school to become self-sufficient school where by a student have to get everything whatever he or she want from school.
In my conclusion, allow me to introduce the volunteer who is Jamie a lady from America (USA).

Yours truly,
NAKAKEETO FAITH,
St Denis Makondo Senior Secondary School.
